Replacement is pretty straightforward, just unscrew the old hose and the showerhead then attach the new ones in place. I just made one minor modification to the new showerhead by drilling a bigger hole into the water saver valve (located on the water inlet of the showerhead) as the water flow is weak and restricted by the smaller hole.
The new hose is very flexible and really easy to store, unlike the factory hose which is a pain to store into the storage compartment, just coil the new hose about 3x and the door will close with ease.
With showerhead mounted on the existing pin mount.
The shower head lever locks open, it slides forward to lock when you fully depress it. To unlock, simply slide the lever back towards you.
Optional showerhead DIY magnetic pin wall mount. I just epoxied a strong circular magnet (usually available at your local home improvement store) on its backside then covered the magnet with felt fabric to prevent it from scratching the RV body paint.
With showerhead mounted high up. A good option if you enjoy showering outside, not that I'm looking forward too. But I can see it useful on the beach if you need to rinse off after surfing or swimming, especially here in California where state beach shower/wash stations are turned off due to the drought.
Showerhead mounted low to the ground, good for hand washing and rinsing your feet and minimizing splashing of water into the side of the RV.
To store the magnetic pin wall mount inside the exterior shower compartment, I attached a big metal washer into the right side wall using VHB tape.

There are so many different shower heads on amazon. could you tell me more info on yours so I can find it? this mod is just what I need.

DeleteNo worries, thanks for the reply. After I reread your post, I see where you specifically said "a small shower head with a built-in shut-off lever". My bad. The link you have to the magnet you used takes me to an Amazon page for a magnetic hook. Did you remove the magnet from the hook and use it on your wall pin mount?
DeleteYes, I removed the magnet from the hook and epoxied it on the wall pin mount. I will be removing that link from Amazon as it looks like it was changed and now seems overpriced. You can get it from Home Depot store for a lot lesser price and the correct size.

It has a shower end head that rotates after you attach it, the other one did not seem to have this feature. It also comes with two protective covers for the chrome end fittings with screw on caps for the ends so you don't lose the washers included. It also comes with two extra washers. It is just as flexible as the other hose.
For the shower head pin mount, the link you have does not go to any specific product anymore. It is now a general info page for same products. I clicked one of those and received a mount with plastic pin which wouldn't make it long term. And, the plastic was loose which would be firm if mounted on a wall. For this application you would have to epoxy it to the plastic mount. I wound up buying the Delta chrome pin mount and the Delta chrome shower head connector from Amazon as a result. I am not sure why your connector says "swivel" in your description as the shower head connector from Delta doesn't swivel but the hose mentioned above does.
I think these are good updates and I am very pleased with the idea and the implementation I wound up with. Thanks again for the idea.

Love this mod. I used a 2" diameter 25lb pull magnet (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Master-Magnet-25-lb-Round-Base-Pull-Magnets-96324/203613132), epoxied a 2mm thick piece of felt (pic: https://a.cl.ly/mXu5x5p6), and it's magnetic but nowhere near strong enough to hold up the showerhead. What am I missing?
ReplyDeleteThanks. It appears that the felt you use is a little thick, no? If the magnet is rated for 25 lbs, then it should hold the shower head with no problem.
DeleteI managed to painstakingly rip and cut off the felt with my teeth and a razor blade, and a thinner piece of felt is the ticket! Avoid premium felt and get the stuff you can see through. Thanks!
